v0.2.7Release notes

A native workbench for the pi coding agent.

Your sessions, your models, your machine. Chat, review, and commit in one window — the same sessions as the terminal, drawn natively.

The agent

Watch it think, call tools, and edit.

Thinking, tool calls, and file edits stream into a GPU-rendered transcript that never reflows. Steer mid-run or queue a follow-up from the composer — model and thinking effort are a keystroke away.

  • Coalesced streaming, GFM markdown, and paint-only syntax highlighting.
  • Prompt, steer, queue, or cancel — all against the live pi process.
  • Every tool call expands into arguments, output, and inline diffs.

Sessions

Sessions live where pi put them.

Your list is read straight from pi and grouped by project — the same sessions the terminal sees. Reopen, clone, or hide a workspace without touching anything on disk; recent sessions stay warm.

New task

Pick a workspace. Describe the task.

Choose Plan, Build, or Ask, point Orbit at a workspace, and say what you want. Model, thinking effort, and access mode sit right in the composer — press send and the run begins in a live session.

  • Plan, Build, or Ask — one toggle before the run starts.
  • Workspace picked from your projects, remembered across sessions.
  • Access mode, model, and thinking level set beside the composer.

Models & providers

Every provider. Every model. One window.

pi's live catalog plus custom providers — sign in with a key or OAuth, then pick any model per task, with thinking effort set alongside it. Local models from Ollama sit next to the hosted ones.

  • Anthropic, OpenAI, Bedrock, OpenCode Go, and your own endpoints.
  • Point Orbit at a local Ollama and everything stays on your machine.
  • Favorites and context sizes, grouped by provider.

Skills

Teach it your team's playbook.

Skills are SKILL.md playbooks pi loads at startup — user-level and project-level. Browse them in Orbit, read the full instructions, and enable or disable any of them with one switch.

  • Project and user skills, browsable with full SKILL.md preview.
  • Enable or disable a skill without editing files.
  • Invoked as /skill: commands right from the composer.

Git

Read the diff before you switch apps.

The agent edits files behind the transcript. Orbit keeps a live diff in a right-hand panel and a full Git page beside it — stage, review, and commit without leaving the window.

  • A live git diff of the workspace, refreshed when a run settles.
  • Generate a commit message, stage what you want, and push in place.
  • History and graph views for the branch you are standing on.

Usage

Know what every run costs.

Requests, tokens, cost, and cache — read from pi's own meter, across the sessions on your machine. No third-party analytics, no guesswork about where the context went.

  • Per-run and per-provider figures, with cached and context tokens.
  • A 30-day view of tokens over time, kept entirely local.

MCP

Wire in your tools over MCP.

Orbit manages Model Context Protocol servers for the agent — global or scoped to a project. Add a server, see its tool count and connection status, and flip a switch to enable or disable it.

  • Global and project-scoped servers, side by side.
  • Connection status and tool counts at a glance.
  • Enable, edit, or remove a server without editing JSON.

Plugins

Extend pi with packages.

Install pi packages from npm, git, or a local path — globally or for this project. Orbit shows what's configured and its version, updates it, and pi picks changes up at its next restart.

  • npm, git, or local-path packages, global or project scope.
  • Install, update, and remove without leaving the window.
  • Loaded at startup — restart pi to apply changes.

Appearance

Make it feel like yours.

Light and dark themes, interface and code fonts, sizes, and language — Appearance covers the window itself, and every other setting is one search away.

  • Light and dark themes with per-theme palettes.
  • Interface and code fonts, sizes, and a live terminal preview.
  • Search across every setting from one field.

Native

A real desktop app. You hold the keys.

Orbit is a native macOS, Windows, and Linux app — Rust and GPUI, keyboard-first, no web views. And every mutating tool call passes through an access mode you set per task, so the agent never runs ahead of you.

  • Supervised — asks before every edit and every command.
  • Auto-accept edits — applies file edits, still asks before commands.
  • Full access — runs without prompting, picked deliberately per task.

Refactor the parser, then run the suite.
